“Before launching any product, get a small group of individuals that are your target audience—get in touch and ask them to be a beta user, ask for feedback because they should be specific in your industry,” explains Gladish. Gladish notes that even if “you don’t have sales people, focus on messaging people who could be influencers in your space, you want to get them to use it and recommend it and generate more sales channels for you.”

The Path On How To Get Your First 100 Customers
At this point, the stage is set for you to get your first 100 customers. Gladish says that there are 3 more major steps you need to keep in mind.
- Find where your audience is.
There are a lot of ways you can reach this point. Gladish notes that whatever audience you want, there’s likely going to be a Facebook group that exists for it. This can be an invaluable way to get knowledge about your target audience. Quora is a great way to make this happen as well.
- Find online directories relevant to your niche.
Again, this all goes back to building your network. In the case of bloggers, “many would be happy to post your product or service for free – with a referral fee if someone purchases your product or service,” Gladish points out. In addition, he recommends getting started with an affiliate program earlier rather than later. The little bit of commission you pay could be made up by sales.
- Target groups and associations.
Step 1 helped you target the right people to work with and learn about them, not it’s time to actually act on that knowledge. Incubators, startups, and accelerators all offer products and promotions to leverage a community with several connections. List your product on sites like Betalist or Producthunt, or similar sites with good traffic. In addition, Linkedin groups are a surprisingly effective way to pitch a product.
